Welcome to Mr. Houston’s page.  My name is Cassidy Houston and I am currently teaching math and physical education for both the upper and lower schools at New Vistas School. I graduated from the University of Mary Washington with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mathematics in May of 2014. This is my first year teaching at New Vistas School. I am currently teaching Consumer Math and Math Fundamentals in the Upper School. I also teach 7th and 8th grade math in the Lower School.

 
Consumer Math  – This class focuses on applying mathematics to real life situations that range from calculating the cost of food to making a budget.  It teaches real life skills for students after graduation and when they enter the work force.
Math Fundamentals – This class has a more hands on approach to mathematics.  It focuses on teaching outside the classroom by relating math concepts to the students interests whenever possible.

 
Math 7/8– This class has a more traditional approach to teaching mathematics, but still uses manipulatives and I teach them outside the classroom whenever possible.

 
Physical education –  PE class focuses on teaching how to live healthy life.  It is less about competing and more about learning healthy skills and activities to benefit you in life.
